Hello
My name is Peninatautele Mamona, and I was born and raised amidst the breathtaking beauty of the American Samoa islands, a place where the land and sea seamlessly intertwine to create a tapestry of natural wonder. Growing up in a large, close-knit family of nine children – five boys and four girls – I found my place right in the middle as the fifth child. My childhood was filled with laughter, love, and the unique experiences that come with being part of such a big, boisterous family. We learned to share, to compromise, and to support one another through thick and thin. Our home was always full of activity, with the sounds of children playing, music filling the air, and the aroma of delicious Samoan cuisine wafting from the kitchen.
In 2001, my grandmother and I embarked on what we initially believed would be a short vacation to visit family in Hawaii and California. Little did we know that this trip would change the course of our lives. We found ourselves captivated by the opportunities and possibilities that America had to offer, and we made the difficult decision to stay. I spent the next 10 years building a new life in California, a place that was vastly different from the island home I had known. I embraced the opportunities and challenges that came my way, learning to navigate a new culture, a new language, and a new way of life. I worked hard, made new friends, and gradually built a sense of belonging in this foreign land.
Eventually, I found myself drawn to the serene landscapes and welcoming community of Utah, a place where I felt a sense of peace and tranquility. The majestic mountains, the expansive deserts, and the friendly people all spoke to my heart, and I knew that this was where I wanted to put down roots. I am currently single and do not have any children of my own. However, I am incredibly blessed with many nephews and nieces who bring immense joy and purpose to my life. I cherish the role I play in their lives as a loving aunt and mentor, and I am grateful for the opportunity to watch them grow and learn.
My journey in caring for individuals with disabilities started at a young age when I had the privilege of being part of my older sister's caregiving team. My sister had a disability, and assisting her with her daily needs instilled in me a deep sense of compassion, empathy, and respect for those who require support. Through these experiences, I learned the importance of patience, understanding, and unconditional love. I discovered that caregiving is not simply a task or a duty, but a calling, a way of life that is both challenging and deeply rewarding.
Driven by this passion, I made the decision to open my home to individuals with disabilities who need support. I am committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where they can feel loved, respected, and empowered. My goal is to help them live their lives to the fullest potential, fostering their independence, and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. I believe that everyone, regardless of their abilities, deserves to live a life filled with joy, meaning, and dignity, and I am honored to be a part of their journey.
In my leisure time, I find joy in spending quality time with my loved ones. Whether it's playing games, watching movies, or simply enjoying each other's company, I cherish the moments I share with my family and friends. We laugh, we reminisce, we share our hopes and dreams, and we create memories that will last a lifetime. I also find solace and inspiration in nature and love.
